“I Am More Than Autism” is the 2018 theme for the Autism Awareness drive fuelled by Prestige Holdings Limited through their continued partnership with the Right Start For Autism Early Intervention Programme for Autism.
It speaks to any child on the autism spectrum being able to harness their superpower of autism to become and do anything they set their mind to. Prestige Holdings Limited has actively supported the Right Start For Autism since 2014 through financial donations, media launches, awareness material and various awareness drives.
On Tuesday, March 20, the new Prestige Holdings Limited Sensory Gym was opened at Right Start For Autism on Carlos Street in Port of Spain.
The Sensory Gym includes suspended swings, rock wall, trampoline and tailored play structures to help children on the autism spectrum improve their sensory functions while providing a fun and developmental physical space. Sensory gyms such as these, which cater to the special needs of the children is of tremendous value.
Unfortunately, these gyms are not readily accessible for many families and the company was very humbled, to fund the opening of the very first sensory gym at the Right Start For Autism foundation for children enrolled in their Early Intervention Programme.
The new Prestige Holdings Ltd. Sensory Gym includes:
-Suspended equipment with swings – for balance and vestibular treatment
-Crash mats and crash pillows – for fun, motor planning, and strength
-Rock wall – for developing coordination and motor planning skills
-Trampoline – for building leg and core strength
-Indoor play structure – for climbing and increasing playground skills
-Sensory-based toys – for improved auditory processing and fine motor skills
-Fine Motor and Arts and Crafts Area – for improved hand-eye coordination
To commemorate this occasion the Prestige Holdings Executive and Marketing teams spent the morning with the children of Right Start For Autism designing and painting fun ‘Superhero’ capes in keeping with the superhero theme for this year. This activity was then followed by an intimate ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Those present were with the children enrolled at Right Start For Autism, the staff and custodians of the Right Start For Autism - Donnella Rodriguez Laird and Sirloin George, the CEO of Prestige Holdings Ltd - Charles Pashley, the executive and marketing teams of Prestige Holdings Ltd and Dr. Tim Conway – Neuropsychologist and founder of Morris Centre for Dyslexia located at Diego Martin.
